Sources hint OpenAI plans to roll out an AI agent early in 2025.

OpenAI is stepping up its game with the launch of Operator, a new AI assistant designed to handle complex tasks like booking flights or writing software directly in a web browser. Launching in January as a research preview, Operator will be available through OpenAI’s API, empowering users to automate multi-step processes with ease.

Unlike traditional chatbots, Operator and other agentic AI systems act more like personal assistants, completing tasks end-to-end with minimal supervision. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently called agents the company’s “next giant breakthrough,” signaling a shift toward more practical, hands-on AI solutions.
